In 2008, Harvard Medical School (HMS) updated the criteria for academic promotion. The CFDD hasorganized a series of seminars in conjunction with HMS on this topic. Slides, materials and recordings of the seminars are available online. In addition, HMS hasits own website specifically about the criteria for promotion and CV format.

How to Make an Appointment with Dr. Mary Clark
Dr. Mary Clark is a consultant for the CFDD on Faculty Development and former Associate Dean at HMS. Dr. Clark is available the 3rd Wednesday and 1st Thursday of each month to meet with faculty in the process of preparing materials for promotion.

Brigham Leadership Program (BLP)
The Brigham Leadership Program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital is geared for mid-career physicians and scientists and nursing and clinical directors in a management role, and currently leading teams, projects, divisions, centers, clinics or laboratories. Organized to accommodate professional schedules, participants meet for four 2.5 days modules on site at HBS. The program is tailored toenhance the participants’ leadership capacity and ability to lead complex projects and teams.

BWH Faculty Resource Guide
The Center for Faculty Development and Diversity, in conjunction with the Brigham and Women'sPhysicians Organization has created a guide of the benefits and resources available at Brigham and Women's. Inside you will find a wide range of topics, ranging from research resources to childcare options. The Faculty Resource Guide is distributed annually at the New Faculty Welcome Lunch, and is available year round online to view or download as a pdf.

GLBT Resources
There are a variety of groups and organizations centered around Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender faculty. They include The American Medical Association GLBT Advisory Committee, and The Gay and Lesbian Medical Association. There are also more patient oriented resources like The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Health Access Project, and The National Coalition for GLBT Health. More information about these resources can be found by visiting their websites, or at the CFDD's GLBT Faculty page.
Brigham and Women's Hospital has created a GLBT Affinity Group that is open to all employees. The group continues to gain members and support, to become a member, fill out this anonymous survey.

Brigham and Women's Hospital Minority Faculty Career Development Award
Established in 1996, the award is granted annually to two BWH-affiliated early-career underrepresented minority academicians (generally junior faculty or trainees). It is an unrestricted $150,000 award aimed to assist in career development and enhance faculty retention.
Harvard Medical School Faculty are eligible for a range of Fellowships based on academic rank, career track and departmental affiliation.
The Eleanor and Miles Shore Fiftieth Anniversary Program for Scholars in Medicine
Established to help junior faculty at the point in their careers when they must teach, do research, compete for grants, publish, or practice (if a clinical faculty member) at the same time they may be assuming increased family or other responsibilities.

Harvard Medical School Invitational Faculty Fellowship and Grant Opportunities
The HMS Red Book Fellowship Program is offered each Fall and Spring, and iscomprised of faculty fellowship opportunities by invitation only. The internal nomination process for these invitational awards is open to all eligible HMS faculty, including those at all HMS-affiliated institutions.

1. Microsoft Outlook Address Book(the links below open screen shots to assist you).
- Open Microsoft Outlook and click on the "Tools" tab at the top of the screen. Then click on "Address Book". After the address book opens, type the last name of the person you are looking for, and scroll the list to find them. You can also open the address book while writing an email, just click the "To", "Cc", or "Bcc" buttons on the left.
2. Partners Telephone Directory
- To use the Partners Telephone Directory, Search by name (Last, First), phone number, or Partners Page ID.
3. Harvard Medical School White Pages
-A website for looking up employees with academic appointment, The HMS White Pages.

Brigham and Women's Physician's Association
The BWPO embodies the interests and expertise of BWH physicians in providing the highest quality health care in the most efficient and effective way, within a competitive and rapidly changing healthcare environment. The BWPO was incorporated in 1999 as a charitable corporation in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and began its operations in 2001. Since January 1, 2003, the BWPO has been comprised of sixteen business units: the Departments of Medicine, Surgery, Anesthesiology, Radiology, Pathology, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Orthopedic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Dermatology, Neurology, Radiation Oncology, Psychiatry, and Emergency Medicine along with Newborn Medicine, Primary Care, and Rheumatology. Today, the BWPO employs approximately 1,100 physicians.

Employee Discounts
There are a variety of discounts and perks for Brigham and Women's employees to take advantage of. The Perks Office sends out weekly emails detailing perks that have been most recently added. Please note that the Cashier’s Office located on the Pike through the 75 Francis Street entrance does not accept credit or debit cars, personal checks and cash only.

How to Correctly Register for Upcoming Events
There are several options for registering for CFDD, OMC, ORC or OWC events. The best way to determine how to register for an individual event is to look at either an event flier, or webpage for the event. Electronic promotion typically includes a link to register online, although some smaller events require registration through e-mail.
Each month, the CFDD distributes a calendar of events, an online version of its monthly flyer that details upcoming events and programs.
Another option is the BWH Health Events Calendar, which has a more comprehensive listing of upcoming programs. If you have any questions abouta specific event, contact the CFDD at BWHCFDD@partners.org.

Do I have Appointment at Harvard?
BWH is a Harvard Academic Medical Center, so all BWH faculty and fellows should be given an "appointment" at Harvard Medical School (HMS). Sponsored Staff members may also be eligible for HMS Appointments, though they are not eligible for BWH benefits.
- A Harvard ID and appointment provides you access to the M2 Shuttle, libraries, etc.
The Harvard appointment generates your Harvard University ID number (HUID) which gives you access to eCommons, the Harvard Medical Intranet, as well as your Harvard ID badge and HMS Countway Library and digital library access. To find out the status of your Harvard appointment:
Check the HMS White Pages which lists all those with active HMS appointments.
Check with your departmental administrator to see if your paperwork as been submitted to HMS. This can take several weeks to be processed.

How to get a Harvard ID
Once your HMS appointment has been processed and verified, you must visit one of the photo capture sites to have your picture taken and then return a week later to pick up the ID. An official picture identification card (hospital ID, driver’s license, passport) is necessary to obtain the ID.

Harvard Neighbors
Harvard Neighbors is a volunteer and membership organization that for over 100 years has worked to create a sense of community for the members of this large University. They plan and host a variety of special activities and social opportunities for people who share similar interests. Postdoc Organizations
The HMS/HSDM Postdoctoral Association is a volunteer member run organization dedicated to improving the postdoctoral experience for all fellows at Harvard Medical School, Harvard School of Dental Medicine and their affiliate institutions. The PDA aims to be an agency of advocacy; promotes academic and career goals, including training and counseling efforts to assist in career and professional development; and disseminates information of particular interest or relevance. Summer Research
Summer Research Program Information
The Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (CFDD), in conjunction with the Office for Multicultural Faculty Careers, offers two research programs for college students each summer. For 8 weeks, students who take part in the programs work in research lab and present their findings at the culmination of the program.
Four Directions Summer Research Program
Founded in 1994, the Four Directions Summer Research Program (FDSRP) looks for students with a demonstrated interest in Native American health, although it is not limited exclusively to Native American students. The FDSRP offers students experience with cutting edge research at a leading medical school, exposure to Native American health care issues, and a chance to network with students and faculty at HMS. BWH Summer Training in Academic Research and Scholarship
The BWH Summer Training in Academic Research and Scholarship (STARS) program is open to all underrepresented minorities who are first year medical students or current college juniors and seniors. It strives to provide students an opportunity to engage in exciting basic, clinical, or translational research projects during the summer at BWH and HMS. The Center for Community Health and Health Equity (CCHHE) is an important expression of Brigham and Women's Hospital's commitment to community service. Established in 1991 in response to poor birth outcomes in underserved sections of Boston, the CCHHE identifies approaches to health care for low income and other underserved women and their families.
