- We are pleased to announce the recipients of the Arthur Tracy Cabot Fellowship in Surgical Health Services Research.

- Alvin Kwok, MD (Brigham Women’s Hospital)
- Atul Gawande, MD, MPH was awarded $2.5 million from the World Health Organization to continue his work with the WHO Patient Safety Program Safe Surgery Saves Lives. This two-year grant will focus on disseminating and monitoring the use of the surgical safety checklist, insuring the availability and use of low cost pulse oximeters in operating rooms globally, and developing a series of priority checklists for perinatal care, emergency trauma care, public health outbreaks, and cardiac disease prevention.

- Caprice Greenberg, MD, MPH and Aundrea Oliver, MD published an article in Surgical Clinics of North America, entitled “Measuring outcomes in oncology treatment: the importance of patient-centered outcomes”.
- Michael Zinner, MD published an article in Urologic Clinics of North America, entitled “The evolution of health care in America”.
- John Ayanian, MD, the Medical Director at the Center for Surgery and Public Health published two articles this month; “Patient and physician reminders to promote colorectal cancer screening: a randomized controlled trial” in the Archives of Internal Medicine; and “The elusive quest for quality and cost savings in the Medicare program” in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
