The Women’s Health Policy and Advocacy Program was launched in 2003 and is a core component of the Connors Center for Women’s Health and Gender Biology. The program’s mission is to inform policy at all levels – local, state and national – to promote the highest standard of health and health care for all women. Areas of focus include clinical topics where gender biology plays a key role, such as heart disease and lung cancer, as well as broader concerns such as access, affordability, and structuring care for women. The program is unique in the policy arena in that it draws from the Connors Center’s groundbreaking research in gender biology and experience delivering care to thousands of women each year.
The program’s activities include:
- Increasing awareness of critical issues affecting women's health;
- Developing policy recommendations on current and emerging issues;
- Building collaborations between medicine, public health and public officials;
- Participationg in research to identify barriers and solutions to policy problems;
- Conducting outreach to understand the challenges of delivering care to multiple populations of women;
- Striving to eliminate disparities affecting the health of women.
We gratefully acknowledge the support of the Fannie E. Rippel Foundation in launching this program.
