Keeping our Hearts Healthy!
As hard as we may try to help keep our hearts healthy, the fact is that most Americans are living with one or more risk factor for heart disease. Whether living with diabetes or simply being overweight, risk factors like these can significantly impact your heart health and quality of life. But the good news is that you have the power to reduce your cardiovascular risk and take control of your heart health.
To help individuals achieve their heart health goals, the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Cardiovascular Wellness Service offers “Keeping our Hearts Healthy” – a quarterly series providing education and support to help our local community improve their overall health. Each event is designed to be informative and interactive, helping individuals understand their cardiovascular risk and become empowered to reduce any risk factors they may have. All sessions are held at Brigham and Women’s Hospital on the 3rd Floor “Porch” of the Shapiro Building at 70 Francis Street, Boston, MA. Keeping our Hearts Healthy: Living with Diabetes

Nearly 1 in 12 Americans are currently living with diabetes – a chronic disease that can double or triple risk for heart disease when poorly managed. In this seminar, participants will learn how diabetes affects the body and how individuals can control and in some cases, reverse, diabetes. Free glucose screenings will be available for individuals to check their blood sugar or find out their risk for diabetes.

Keeping our Hearts Healthy: Weight Control

Overweight and obesity are two of the most common risk factors for heart disease in the United States, affecting 2/3 of the U.S. population. So if you are struggling with your weight, know that you are not alone. In this seminar on weight control, participants will learn the impact of weight on heart health and the many ways that one can achieve a healthy weight. Participants will also be provided with the tools necessary to avoid falling into the typical holiday weight gaining cycle. From learning about eating right and exercising to weight loss procedures, individuals will leave this event with a better understanding of weight loss options and an action plan for achieving a healthy weight. Free healthy food, exercise demonstrations and holiday raffle provided!
