Ryan Schwarz completed his BA at Bard College in 2005, and received his MD and MBA from the Yale University Schools of Medicine and Management in 2011. Prior to medical school, Ryan worked with health and development organizations in Ghana, Botswana, South Africa, East Timor, in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina, and on two Native American reservations, through which he developed a passion and commitment to working for health equity in resource-poor communities. While at Yale, Ryan’s research focused on health service delivery to injecting drug users, and he spent a year directing the HAVEN Free Clinic, a clinic serving the uninsured of New Haven. Between 2009 and 2011, Ryan served as the director of Nyaya Health, a non-profit organization working in partnership with the Nepali Ministry of Health developing and implementing health programs in one of the poorest regions of Nepal. As a Global Health Equity resident Ryan aims to better understand management in global health delivery while also continuing his work with Nyaya.
