
Sara Selig, MD was a volunteer public health advocate in Zimbabwe during college. In medical school, Dr. Selig was an NIH Fogarty clinical scholars fellow in Nairobi, Kenya, where she worked as part of a team caring for HIV infected children and their families. Sara’s research focused on immune responses to vaccinations among HIV infected children. While there, Dr. Selig also helped establish a psychosocial program to help HIV infected children adhere to their treatment regimens. Dr. Selig earned her BA from Oberlin College in 1999 and her MD from The University of Colorado School of Medicine in 2007. During her time as a GHE resident she has devoted her efforts to two projects. One is developing a research, advocacy and support network concerning ocular melanoma and the other is working with the Navajo Nation in developing a cancer control program and a community health worker program. She was awarded the Harvard Medical School Dean’s Community Service Award in September 2010 and the Massachusetts General Hospital one hundred award in June 2011 for her work in the ocular melanoma field.
