Neil Gupta, MD's career goal is to work in the development and strengthening of health care systems (including infrastructure, health delivery, and referral networks) in resource-poor, particularly conflict or post-conflict settings. During medical school, Dr. Gupta spent several months working alongside a local physician in a government clinic in the northern desert of Senegal. He also spent a year in Brazil where he worked with an organization called ADT (Domiciliar Therapeutic Assistance), as part of a multi-disciplinary team of health professionals treating home-bound HIV patients. These experiences enhanced Dr. Gupta’s understanding of the complex factors that determine health inequalities on a global scale.
Dr. Gupta earned his BS from Duke University in Cognitive Neurosciences in 2002 and his MD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 2007. He is a first year resident in the Harvard Combined Medicine-Pediatrics Program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Boston’s Children’s Hospital. Dr. Gupta’s research experience includes a study of the early introduction of water and complimentary feeding and nutritional status of children in northern Senegal and a study of the role of integrated home-based care in patient adherence to antiretroviral therapy in Brazil.
