Division of Hospital Neurology

Our Hospital Neurology Services

We admit approximately 1,600 patients to our inpatient service each year, a number that has increased annually for more than ten years. We additionally see over 2,000 emergency room and inpatient neurologic consults per year. Many of the patients we treat are referred to us from hospitals and clinics across New England and around the world.

Our neurohospitalist team provides compassionate and cutting-edge care to patients with both common and complex neurological conditions including stroke, seizures and epilepsy, brain tumors, multiple sclerosis, meningitis, encephalitis, Guillain-Barre syndrome, and myasthenia gravis, to name only a few.

We have access to advanced diagnostic testing as well as consultation with numerous neurologic subspecialists for the evaluation of patients with diseases of the nervous system whose diagnosis has not yet been determined. We additionally provide consultation to the medicine, surgery, oncology, obstetrics/gynecology, and emergency services at Brigham and Women’s Hospital to diagnose and treat neurologic complications of medical diseases, and to assist in the management of patients with neurologic diseases admitted to the hospital for other reasons. Our Neurology Department has a separate but integrated Division of Neuro-Critical Care for patients requiring ICU-level neurological care.
