About Us
The Women's Neurology program at Brigham and Women's Hospital is a unique interdisciplinary and interdivisional neurology program that brings together neurologists, neuroradiologists and neurosurgeons who have clinical and research interests in women's health and neurology.
Our focus is on gender differences in medical evaluation, diagnosis, implementation of treatment and care. We consider how hormonal and reproductive changes throughout a woman's lifespan, including pregnancy and menopause, as well as use of oral contraceptives and assisted reproduction, impact neurological health and disease. This new initiative was developed with Dr. Paula Johnson, the Executive Director of the Connor's Center for Women's Health and Gender Biology, and Dr. Martin Samuels, Chief of the Department of Neurology, to bring together various physicians with an interest in women's neurology.
We have established this program to raise awareness of issues specific to women with neurological disease, to build a clinical resource and referral base for patients and other physicians and to build research collaborations that examine gender differences in neurological disease.
Our Goals are to:
1) offer a clinical program addressing women's health in neurology, where patients can find specialized, trained faculty for clinical evaluation.
2) identify research clinicals who investigate neurological diseases specific to woman and how gender-specific issues impact neurological disease.
3) provide resources and educational information for patients and to her physicians on topics specific to women experiencing neurological illnesses.
