Barbara N Weissman, MD
Radiology Residency Program Director
Dr. Weissman grew up in New York City. She graduated from the Tufts University School of Medicine and did her Radiology Residency at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital (now part of the Brigham and Women's Hospital) under the direction of Drs Harry Mellins and Herbert Abrams. During much of her career at BWH, Dr. Weissman served as Section Chief of Musculoskeletal Radiology. She has published extensively in that field and been an invited lecturer nationally and internationally. She developed the Orthopedic Radiology postgraduate course that has been ongoing for more than 30 years. Dr. Weissman also served as Vice Chair for Ambulatory Services, helping to develop a network of radiology practice sites in New England. In 2004, she changed responsibilities to become Vice Chair and Radiology Residency Director. Dr. Weissman is a full professor of Radiology. She has twice been awarded the Harry Z Mellins prize (as an outstanding clinician and leader), has been President of the New England Roentgen Ray Society, and received the Outstanding Educator of the Year award from the RSNA. She will receive the Allice Ettinger lifetime achievement award from the American Association for Women Radiologists in November, 2009. Dr. Weissman lives in Newton, is married, and has 2 grown children and two adorable granddaughters.
Stacy Smith
Associate Radiology Residency Program Director
Dr. Smith grew up in Edmonton, Alberta, as well as Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. She completed medical school at the University of Saskatchewan, followed by internship and residency in Diagnostic Radiology at Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Following an MSK radiologic pathology fellowship at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington, DC under the director of Mark D. Murphey, she spent the first 10 years of her career at the University of Maryland where she was also the Associate Residency Program Director for the last 5 years and an Associate Professor of Radiology. She has published, lectured and taught within her chosen discipline of Musculoskeletal Radiology, as well as within the realm of medical education including computer technology utilization with regards to knowledge acquisition. She was instrumental in coordinating the integration of radiology into the anatomy courses of medical students which involved imaging of cadavers as well as lecturing in the yearly clinical correlation and integration course comprised of surgery, radiology, internal medicine and anatomists. She is a previous recipient of the ARRS Melvin Figley Fellowship in Journalism as well as U of M Radiology Residency Teaching Awards. Previous national and international roles in education include being the Director of the RSNA MSK Case of the Day Program, Associate Editor for Pediatric Radiology for the American Journal of Radiology, and Co Director of the Annual ARRS Case Based Imaging Review Course for the last several years. In 2009, she moved to Boston to take her current position as Section Head and Weissman Distinguished Chair of Musculoskeletal Radiology at Brigham and Women's Hospital as well as becoming Associate Residency Program Director. She resides in the Boston area with her husband and amazing baby daughter (who by the way was born at Brigham and Women's Hospital two months after starting her new position - a great way to start the tradition of Brigham for Life!).
Salvatore G Viscomi, MD
Director of Admissions
Dr. Viscomi was born in Italy and has lived in New Jersey, New York and Philadelphia prior to coming to Boston. After completing his radiology residency at Brigham and Women's Hospital in 2000, he joined the staff of the Emergency Radiology section and co-founded Brigham NightWatch, a joint venture providing teleradiology services to both private and academic radiology practices in New England. Since July 2009, he has been the Director of Emergency Radiology at Cape Cod Hospital. His research interests are visual perception, and he is the founder and president of Beacon Aptitude Testing. He has served as the Admissions Director of the radiology residency program for the past 4 years.
Jenna Hastings
Radiology Residency Program Coordinator
In 2004 Jenna graduated from Mount Ida College with a BA in Liberal Arts. While attending college Jenna worked as a temp for BWH for 4 years providing clerical and administrative support for the Physician Services Department. In 2006 she joined the Department of Radiology as an Education Assistant. Jenna is continuing her education at Northeastern University, working towards a Masters Degree in Leadership. In 2011 she assumed her current position.
