Support Staff:
A diagnosis of mesothelioma can be a frightening, lonely and unexpected experience; often coming as a shock to an otherwise healthy person. A cancer diagnosis affects not only patients but also families, loved ones and friends. Its impact is not only physical but also emotional, spiritual and financial. It is normal to worry about how this diagnosis will affect you, your life and your family.
The International Mesothelioma Program treats patients from across the country and around the world. Being away from home adds another layer of difficulty, being away from known support systems.
To support patients and families through this process, there is a dedicated Mesothelioma Support Team consisting of social work, chaplaincy and patient liaison. These professionals provide counseling, emotional and spiritual support as well as practical help with housing and travel needs as well as navigation through their care.
