Health Reform Guide Helps Women Understand the Candidate's Proposal
In October 2008, the program published a non-partisan, consumer-friendly guide to Senator John McCain's and Senator Barack Obama's health care proposals. Designed to help women of all ages, backgrounds and health circumstances understand what each candidate’s reform plan would mean to them, the report presented the stories of seven "fictional women" - Lily, Alisa, Meghan, Sondra, Romi, Lenora and Margaret - each with a different set of health problems and insurance coverage. The report, Health Care Reform and the 2008 Election - A Guide for Women, can be downloaded here.

Issue Brief: Women's Health Policy and the 2008 Election
In October 2008, the program collaborated with the Kaiser Family Foundation to examine how a broad range of women's health policy issues fared under the Obama and McCain health plans. Issues examined included insurance coverage expansions; affordability of care; scope of benefits; prevention and chronic disease; reproductive health; long term care; provider shortages; coordination of care; sex- and gender-based research; and caregiving. Two documents published by the Kaiser Family Foundation - an Issue Brief outlining major health policy challenges facing women and summarizing the candidates positions on these issues, and a Side-by-Side Analysis of the candidates' plans on women's health - summarize this work.
