Overview
At the center of care
We believe no one is more intimately familiar with a patient's condition on a daily or hourly basis than the nurses administering care. Our nurses are leaders and are at the very center of our care philosophy. Together, nurses and physicians work to develop care regimes that are innovative, safe, and ensure the best outcome for patients and their families.
The right tools for the job
Practicing the evidence-based care that has made us a world-renowned name in nursing would be impossible without the right resources. We are committed to providing all our nurses the tools that make their work easier, better, and safer. For example, in 2005, we implemented the Electronic Medication Administration Record (eMAR) program to selected units in the hospital. This helps reduce medication errors that are a result of incorrect order transcriptions and provides yet another layer of protection against a medication being given to the wrong patient. We have plans to implement this program hospital-wide by the end of the year.
Sometimes the best tools aren't technological. Often, the best tool is information delivered at the right time by the right source. Nurse educators, preceptors, and mentors are always available to answer nurses' questions whenever they arise. In fact, nurses of all levels as well as nurse educators are available in every department, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
An atmosphere of learning
Perhaps it's because we're a renowned teaching hospital, or perhaps it's because our nurses treat each other with warmth and respect, but whatever the cause, Brigham and Women's fosters an atmosphere of continuous learning. From our extensive orientation, to our customized mentorship and preceptorship programs, we ensure that every nurse has the information he or she needs to provide the best possible care.
