(please note: this page is only visible for those who are logged into a Partners workstation or through VPN) Brigham and Women’s Hospital offers a comprehensive Flexible Benefit Program, including pre-tax deductions, designed to truly benefit our employees! Benefit Time: You can take 29 days off a year (33 days after 7 years of employment). This includes vacation, holidays, and sporadic illness. Plus, you accrue 5 days a year into an Extended Sick Leave Bank should you become ill and need to be away from work for more than 5 days. Benefit Time allows you to decide how you will use your time off.
Health Insurance: We offer you a variety of plans, including Partners Plus, Partners Value, Blue Cross/Blue Shield Plans, Harvard Pilgrim Health Plan, Neighborhood Health Plan and Tufts Associated Health Plan. This pre-tax deduction can be arranged for you individually or for a whole family Eligible dependents include same-sex domestic partners. If you have coverage under another medical plan, you may elect to opt-out of medical coverage at BWH and receive a supplement in your paycheck.
Dental and Vision Insurance: One or both are available on both an individual or family basis.
Life Insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment: This is totally free of charge for you! The insurance plan has a value equal to your annual salary, so as your salary increases so does the value of your life insurance. You may also choose to purchase additional insurance coverage for you and your dependents.
Long Term Disability: LTD is offered at no charge to our employees scheduled 20 hours or more. Should you become sick or disabled you would receive 60% of your gross monthly income.
Pension Plan: Brigham and Women’s Hospital contributes 100% toward your pension into a cash balance retirement plan. You are vested after three years of employment.
Tax Deferred Annuities: Allows you to save money and plan for retirement through pre-tax payroll deduction. Accounts may be set up through Fidelity, Valic, and TIAA-Cref.
Spending Accounts (Dependent Care and Health Care): By opening a health care or dependent care spending account, you may reimburse yourself for medical and/or dependent care expenses on a tax-favored basis, with dollars that are not subject to federal, state and social security taxes.
Retiree Medical Savings Account: This program is designed to help you save and pay for the cost of health benefits during retirement, as well as provide access to retiree health plans sponsored by the hospital. One major feature of the program provides for a hospital matching contribution to help encourage savings under the program. You are eligible to participate in the RMSA beginning the calendar year in which you reach age 50.
Back-up Child Care: BWH provides two types of Backup Child Care services – the BWH Backup Child Care Center and Parents in a Pinch. The BWH Backup Child Care Center, located at 850 Boylston Street in Chestnut Hill, serves BWH employees who need emergency or planned backup child care for their children, aged eight weeks to 12 years. Long-term Care Insurance Plan: A voluntary benefit available to employees, spouses, same-sex domestic partners, parents/step parents and parents-in-law. In addition to conventional nursing home coverage, the policy covers services received in your home.
Credit Union: The Medical Area Federal Credit Union (MAFCU) offers an opportunity to have money deducted from your paycheck on a weekly basis and deposited into a variety of accounts; checking, clubs and savings. In addition, there are loans available including home mortgages. The credit union offers you a convenient way to save money and/or borrow money.
Wellness Program: Subsidized memberships at Fitcorp, a fully equipped and professionally staffed fitness center located at 77 Louis Pasteur Avenue, Boston, MA 02115. Membership is at a reduced rate and is deducted from your paycheck.For BWH/PHS Boston Prices are as follows: $75.00/month, plus $50.00 initiation fee (usually $85.00/month, plus $150.00 initiation fee). Suburban Prices: $45.00/month, plus $50.00 initiation fee (usually $52.00/month, plus $150.00 initiation fee). Employee Assistance Program: EAP is a free and confidential professional resource available to all BWH employees. This department focuses on work-life issues, stress reduction, family matters, crisis intervention and substance abuse, in addition to other areas of expertise.
Direct Deposit: A program that allows you to have your weekly pay deposited directly to your bank account.
Discounts: Save money on prescriptions filled at our Brigham and Women’s Pharmacy. Discounts are available at local attractions, including movie theaters. We offer memberships to Disney’s Magic Kingdom, the Harvard Coop and Mass Buying Power for the purchase of products and services.
Information Systems Training: On-site computer training is offered free of charge with supervisory approval.
Tuition Reimbursement: Money is available for employees interested in formally furthering their education. This generous package is offered to full and part-time benefits eligible employees after six (6) months of employment. For Hospital-related non-degree courses/programs, undergraduate degrees and graduate degrees, reimbursement per fiscal year is $2,000 for full-time employees (36-40 hrs) or $1,000 for part-time employees (20-35 hrs). For job-related certificate programs or job-related continuing education courses, reimbursement per fiscal year is $1,000 for full-time employees (36-40 hrs) or $500 for part-time employees (20-35 hrs).
Getting to Work: Brigham and Women’s Hospital is easily accessible by public transportation. Monthly discounted MBTA passes are available through a pre-tax payroll deduction; contact the Parking Office to enroll. Commute Works provides free information on commuting alternatives.
