The ELNEC Core curriculum contains eight modules addressing critical aspects of end-of-life care. The curriculum is presented over the course of 2 days in a variety of methods utilizing interactive discussions, PowerPoint presentations, videos, and reflection. The modules include: Palliative Nursing Care, Pain Management, Symptom Management, Ethical Issues, Cultural Considerations, Communication, Loss, Grief & Bereavement, and Final Hours. The ELNEC curriculum also includes several common threads integrated throughout. These major themes include: the family as the unit of care, the important role of the nurse as advocate, end-of-life care is not confined only to cancer or AIDS, but rather it is essential across all life threatening illnesses and in cases of sudden death, and interdisciplinary care is essential for quality care at the end of life. We also share resources that are available at BWH to assist our nurses caring for their patients and families at the end of life.
Speakers include a variety of NP's from BWH, DF and MGH along with BWH staff nurses over the course of the 2 days.
