Staff pharmacists are deployed directly to the patient care areas based on patient demands (via medication order complexity and volume). The department maintains continuous pharmacist presence, and staffing patterns reflect the intensity of patient care, which is much brisker during day and evening hours. Unit-dose medications are utilized whenever possible to minimize the risk of medication errors. Clinical pharmacy specialists are employed as much as possible to assist in caring for patients in targeted high-risk groups (i.e., medical intensive care, hematology/oncology, cardiology, and high-risk antepartum).
