Research

The Non-Malignant Hematology Division's research activities include both basic and clinical research. Some of the current areas of concentration include:

  • Elucidating how white blood cells move
  • Investigating the origins of tuberous sclerosis
  • Examining the formation and function of platelets
  • Gene cloning in leukemia
  • Sickle cell treatment

Our research staff consists of 12 senior and 12 junior faculty. Members of the research team have been recognized for outstanding research by the Howard Hughes Institute, the American Cancer Society, the Center for Blood Research, and the American Society of Hematology. The research team is currently engaged in plans to consolidate and relocate its laboratory research program to a new building, scheduled for completion in 2004. Thirty-three of our clinical and research staff have faculty appointments at the Harvard Medical School.
