Genitourinary (GU) Cancer

Radiation is a mainstay treatment of prostate cancer. Our GU group uses state-of-the-art systems and leads the way in techniques that improve daily targeting accuracy. Improved accuracy allows us to deliver higher doses of therapy to the tumor while better sparing the normal tissues and minimizing short- and long-term side effects.

Conformal external beam radiation uses a three-dimensional approach to maximize conformality of the radiation dose around the target. Intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) is used for high precision in order to minimize dose to normal tissue and allow boosts of dose to cancer. Brachytherapy is used with both real-time ultrasound-guided placement of radioactive seeds in the prostate, and intra-operative MRI-guided brachytherapy.
