Overview
The Division of Surgical Oncology at the Dana Farber/Brigham and Women' Cancer Center provides comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and management for adult patients with both general surgical and oncologic surgical problems in the ambulatory as well as inpatient setting.
Ten division specialists perform 3,000 inpatient procedures annually and provide over 4,000 ambulatory services in addition to active participation in the gastrointestinal cancer, sarcoma and breast center programs.
Our board certified surgical oncologists have expertise in biological cancer, immunotherapy, and gene therapy for a variety of malignancies. Current research efforts include the development of a vaccine therapy approach for the treatment of breast, ovarian, lung and pancreatic cancers.
Our Services
For a patient with cancer, the goal of surgery is to remove the tumor, when appropriate. When the tumor cannot be removed completely, surgery can ease pain or remove obstructions caused by the cancer. For some patients, surgery is the only form of treatment. For others, surgery may be used in combination with radiation therapy or chemotherapy.
We specialize in surgical procedures for patients with the following diseases:
- Treatment of benign and malignant disorders of the breast
- Management of malignancies of the GI tract, including:
- Colon
- Rectal
- Biliary
- Liver
- Pancreas
- Sarcomas
- Melanomas and other skin lesions
