King Faisal Hospital

History

King Faisal Hospital, located in Kigali, Rwanda, was constructed in 1991 with support from the Saudi Fund for Development. It originally served as a polyclinic and later a general hospital due to lack of medical specialists.

During the genocide and war of 1994, King Faisal Hospital was a refugee camp and medical center for thousands who were displaced.

The hospital began offering specialist services in 1998 after the involvement of Netcare South Africa and the Government of Rwanda.

The hospital is a non-profit tertiary care center with:

• 140 acute care beds
• 8 intensive care unit beds
• 33 post-operative beds
• 2 operating rooms
