If you are looking for an exciting and challenging experience in ministry, come to the Brigham and Women’s Hospital to learn to provide spiritual support to a vast and diverse community as you personally grow in a caring and supportive environment. Our BWH Field Education program runs during the academic year and is for graduate students preparing for ministry. In this program, the Field Ed student participates in an interfaith ministry in an urban hospital setting providing pastoral care to patients and their families. The Brigham is a 716 bed acute care Harvard affiliated teaching hospital, which is both incredibly busy and challenging. The patients, families and staff of the hospital include virtually all the major world faith traditions and cultures.
Over the course of the academic year, under supervision, it is expected the student will develop pastoral skills that allow him/her to work with and effectively support patients, their families, and staff. The Brigham depends upon students and volunteers to help provide pastoral care to our patients. For this reason, we ask students to carefully weigh their academic commitments and ability to fulfill the high expectations of the program before accepting a position as a Field Ed student.
