The Cardiovascular Genetics Center at Brigham and Women’s Hospital is composed of a multidisciplinary team of nationally recognized physicians and scientists who work together to take the latest discoveries in research on inherited cardiac disease and apply them directly to the patient.
Our team collaborates with BWH experts throughout the field of cardiovascular medicine, so our patients have access to specialists in advanced heart disease, electrophysiologists, interventional cardiologists and cardiac surgeons, all of whom are dedicated to providing the highest level of clinical care. In addition, specialists in radiology, rheumatology, ophthalmology, obstetrics and gynecology and pediatric cardiology care for patients with the full spectrum of clinical problems that may arise in patients with inherited cardiac disease at all ages and stages of life. Which of these specialists a patient will see for treatment depends on the type of inherited cardiac condition the patient is diagnosed with, the effect the condition has on the heart, along with other aspects of the patient’s health.
Collaborative, Comprehensive, Ongoing Care
Members of the cardiovascular genetics team at our state-of-the-art Shapiro Cardiovascular Center design customized care plans based on risk of heart disease and/or clinical status of each patient. Some patients may be adequately managed in their communities, and some with persistent symptoms or more serious disease may require more advanced care. In either case, our clinicians work closely with referring physicians to manage each patient’s unique needs.
The entire CVGC team understands the importance of comprehensive ongoing care for our patients. It starts with communication, ensuring that patients have a full understanding of their condition and their options and it includes every provider involved in the patient’s individual care, from the referring physician to all other specialists who may be involved.
