in the Department of Medicine. No less than 337 applicants endured the grueling interview process in January and waited with bated breath for the Match Day Decision. From this highly competitive pool, the Department of Medicine welcomes its 73 new interns for 2005-2006.
“The tradition of Brigham and Women’s Hospital’s excellence continues this year as we welcome a truly outstanding and diverse intern class,” says Joel Katz, MD, Director of the Medical Residency Program. “As they are the first-contact physicians for most of our inpatients, and many will stay on for fellowship and faculty positions, interns represent the life-blood of our Department.” This diverse group of physicians hails from 35 medical schools and is comprised of approximately 50% women and 10% under-represented minority. Of this accomplished group, over 25% have already obtained a Ph.D., M.P.H. or its equivalent and 12 are married. Bruce Levy, Co-Director of the Medical Residency Program looks forward to an exciting year working with this exceptional group of physicians and says that they are “remarkably nice people who will further enrich the Department with their esprit de corps.”
