Dr. Bentley-Lewis conducts patient-oriented research to investigate hormonal mechanisms underlying cardiovascular disease risk factors. She is particularly focused on the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and insulin resistance andhas received support from 1) the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to investigate the role of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system in mediating vascular dysfunction and 2) the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to investigate the role of a history of gestational diabetes mellitus in subsequent vascular and endothelial function. She also has a special interest in effect modification by race/ethnicity and has beennamed a Health Disparities Scholar by the NIH National Center on Health and Health Disparities.
