TWO PROTECTIVE TIPS
An EPPREF member reports that the sunscreen, "Coppertone SPF-30 Sport" works - and has the advantage that it does not easily "wash off", with sweating, etc. It's worth a try.
Also, a company called KWIK-SHADE makes a "portable" (i.e. you can remove it and re-apply it) dark window film, for use on car windows and house windows. Their address is P.O. Box 2656, Scottsdale, AZ; phone: 602-253-4878.
GENETIC DISCRIMINATION
With the changes in health care, there is some concern that health insurance companies might discriminate against people with inherited diseases. The American Porphyria Foundation, which is politically active, is concerned about this, and ready to do something to help. See their Winter, 1997 newsletter for an article on this subject (and also, for that matter, EPPREF NEWS issue #23). If you run into any discrimination problems, do not hesitate to contact them. Their telephone number is 713-266-9617. (Again, EPPREF members should also join the APF.)
