Erica Zaken is a Patient/Family Relations Representative at Brigham and Women's Hospital. She is a Master of Public Health in Health Law, Bioethics and Human Rights, and has served as a Patient Advocate at both Boston Medical Center and Beth Israel Deaconness Medical Center, where she collaborated with their respective Ethics Committees. While at Boston Medical Center, Erica led a hospital initiative to develop literature concerning organ donation after cardiac death, and contributed to an article addressing the ethical and religious implications of providing payment for organs. Erica received her undergraduate degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, where she majored in Philosophy/Bioethics. Her particular ethical interests include end-of-life decisionmaking in patients with diminished capacity, and issues surrounding access to care and organ donation.
