Brigham and Women's Hospital claimed the 10th spot on the U.S. News & World Report's Honor Roll of America's Best Hospitals for 2007, moving up from number 11 last year. This is the 15th consecutive year BWH has earned a spot on the list.
"Our continuing presence on the U.S. News & World Report Honor Roll is a reflection of our collective dedication to the BWH mission of excellent care, research and education," said BWH President Gary Gottlieb, MD, MBA. "Once again, our compassion and commitment to our patients, their families and each other is the foundation that Brigham and Women's Hospital proudly stands upon as a symbol of excellence in health care."
In the magazine's survey of the best hospitals, BWH ranked among the top 10 in six categories, including Heart and Heart Surgery, Gynecology, Endocrinology, Digestive Disorders, Kidney Disease and Rheumatology. BWH placed in the top 20 in Neurology and Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Respiratory Disorders and Urology.
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, BWH's partner in cancer care, placed fifth in cancer services.
U.S. News & World Report surveyed 5,462 medical centers, and of those, 173 scored high enough in at least one specialty to gain a place among the top 50 rankings. Just 18 hospitals "marked the breadth of expertise" with high scores in at least six of the 16 surveyed specialties to qualify for the honor roll, according to the magazine. U.S. News & World Report has published the Honor Roll annually since 1989.
