Boston, MA 02115
Hours of Operation: Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
PLEASE FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR GOLYTELY, NULYTELY OR COLYTE
Five days before the examination, stop taking iron, aspirin and any non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (e.g., Motrin, Advil, Feldene, Naprosyn). If you are taking Coumadin, please discuss it with your physician.
One day before the examination:
In the morning, prepare Golytely, Nulytely, or Colyte according to the instructions and refrigerate it for use that evening.
You may have a regular breakfast.
Between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., take a clear liquid lunch. Clear liquids consist of: water, tea, coffee (no milk), soda, broth, strained fruit juice, popsicles and Jell-O. Do not ingest red liquids.
Between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., have a clear liquid supper. Following supper, begin drinking Golytely, Nulytely, or Colyte, 8 oz. every 15 minutes. It will take approximately four hours for you to drink the entire solution. The solution will cause you to have very loose stools, which is the expected result. Even if you have very liquid diarrhea, please continue taking it. You may have nausea while drinking the solution, but you should drink all of it to ensure an adequate preparation. At approximately midnight, you will have finished evacuating the solution. Please have nothing to eat or drink after midnight until the procedure is completed the next day.
The morning of the examination:
You may take your regular medications with clear water, unless otherwise instructed by your doctor. If you have an afternoon procedure, you may have clear liquids until 8 a.m. If you are diabetic, take one half dose of insulin in the morning or as instructed by your physician.
