Specialty Procedures:
Hernia Surgery

|
The operation itself depends on the type of hernia but is done with either local anesthesia combined with intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. The surgeon will remove the hernia sac and sew the weakened area of muscle together. This can also be accomplished with the addition of a synthetic mesh to help reinforce the repair.
Postoperatively, the patient will complain of soreness at the incision site. It is important that the patient limit their activities. Your surgeon will give you specific instructions regarding activity but in general it is best to avoid anything strenuous for four to six weeks after the repair.
