The Brigham & Women's Hospital Maternal Fetal Medicine Referral and Transfer Program is an interdepartmental integrated system designed to care for the total medical and social needs of high risk pregnant women (and their families) who require evaluation or hospitalization at our tertiary care medical center. Physicians, midwives and nurses from more than 40 hospitals in New England refer approximately 1500 patients and their families for prenatal consultations and transfer 350-400 patients per year for antenatal treatment, delivery, post-partum and newborn care. The diversity of our professional skills reflects the complexity of the patients' needs we are asked to meet. Perinatologists (specialists in high risk pregnancies), neonatalogists (specialists in the acutely ill or premature newborn), obstetric sonographers, obstetric anesthesiologists, genetic counselors, nurses, social workers, nutritionists, and other allied personnel provide services in our newly constructed Center for Women's and Newborns. We are a resource for the care of any and all problems associated with pregnancy.
