The Epilepsy Program provides comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of patients with known or suspected sleep and/or seizure disorders. Available studies include polysomnography, multiple sleep latency testing and long-term video-EEG monitoring, performed in a state-of-the-art, computerized laboratory. All relevant medical and surgical specialties, including neurology, pulmonary medicine, neurosurgery, otolaryngology, neuroendocrinology, radiology and psychiatry, are involved in patient care, as are ancillary services such as neuropsychology, nursing and social work.
PATIENTS SERVED/PROBLEMS ADDRESSED
- Difficult or poorly controlled epilepsy
- Pre-surgical evaluation of resective surgery candidates with intractable seizures
- Seizure-like "spells" in patients with prior non-diagnostic work-ups
- Assessment of intractable epilepsy for placement of vagal nerve stimulator
- New or experimental therapies
- Suspected sleep disorders and/or nocturnal events

- Special electrodes, seizure induction, ictal and interictal SPECT scans
- Polysomnography with full EEG capability

Brigham and Women's Hospital (Main Campus)
The BWH EEG Lab is an official training site for EEG technologists through Caritas Laboure College. Under the direction of Dr. Barbara Dworetzky, and chief technologist Paul Dionne, our laboratory performs approximately 2000 EEGs per year, 500 continuous monitoring studies, has a fully networked neurology-neurosurgery ICU with intensive monitoring capabilities, and offers full evoked potential studies.
