The BWH Neonatal Respiratory NICU service is a specialty within the Department of Respiratory Therapy(RT). BWH Neonatal RTs apply high-tech life support with compassionate hands-on care. NICU RTs are involved in and dedicated to a wide range of interventions including delivery room care of newborns, mechanical ventilator management, and blood gas analysis. RTs at BWH have refined the scientific art of monitoring, assessing, and responding to lung function waveforms. RT knowledge is shared with other staff, visitors, and students. Special RT educational presentations include High Frequency Ventilation, X-Ray Interpretation, and Newborn Resuscitation. RTs are involved in many of the NICU's research projects such as the study of nitric oxide delivery, its benefits, and its effects.
