Center for Joint Health and Mobility

About the Center

We know that joint pain and stiffness can impact your life in many ways. It may limit your mobility, prevent you from doing things you love, and affect your ability to lead an active lifestyle. Joint pain can result from rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis or joint "wear-and-tear," and from falls or other traumatic injuries to the bones and ligaments that comprise and surround the joint. It can be acute (sudden) or chronic (recurring over time), and affects both men and women, older patients as well as younger patients, and can disrupt the lives of active athletes as well as more sedentary patients like those who work a full-time desk job.

At the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Center for Joint Health and Mobility, our team will partner with you to create a customized treatment plan based on your personal goals and condition to help you achieve the best possible joint health, with a focus on restoring your joints and the way you want to live your life. Whether you're interested in newer options, like same-day joint surgery, or feel more comfortable with more traditional or conservative treatment approaches, we'll work with you to review the advantages of one or more approaches.

The top-ranked orthopedic team at the Brigham and Women's Center for Joint Health and Mobility has long been at the forefront of osteoarthritis treatment and joint replacement surgical care, offering patients the latest innovations and advanced treatment approaches. Treatments for joint pain offered by our team include joint repair and preservation, total joint replacement surgery (also known as joint arthroplasty), revisions of previous joint replacements, partial joint replacement, and surface restoration and resurfacing.

Our surgeons offer innovative surgical options, including custom joint implants made of the latest lightweight materials, and joint replacement procedures assisted by robotic technology that can improve surgical speed, precision, and accuracy. Many of our joint surgeries can be done on an outpatient basis as day surgery, including joint arthroplasty. This means that, in some cases, otherwise healthy patients who receive surgical joint care at the Brigham are discharged the day of their procedure to rest and recover in the comfort of their own home. You and your surgeon will discuss your options for treatment and recovery during your first appointment, and together you will decide on the joint care plan that best serves your health and mobility needs.

Our comprehensive approach to joint care is designed to provide you with a modern, convenient and innovative experience that advises you on your options, guides you through your treatment, and supports you during your recovery.
