The BWH Tobacco Treatment Program Welcomes You!

Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) Tobacco Treatment Program is a tobacco cessation program. BWH Tobacco Treatment Team services approximately 3,600 patients per year (inpatients and outpatients combined). One third of patients recently enrolled in our out-patient program have quit.
The BWH Tobacco Treatment Program offers many services:
For patients who are currently hospitalized:
If you smoke, it takes longer to recover from illness and surgery. When you smoke, your heart rate and blood pressure go up, your heart has to work harder, your wounds heal more slowly, your lungs get more congested, and your chances of a heart attack, stroke, or cancer go up. Since hospitals are smoke-free, being in the hospital is a great time to quit. Ask to speak with a smoking cessation counselor to give you the information to help you quit and stay off of tobacco.
For patients seeking tobacco cessation classes:
Our program offers you free group counseling over 8 weeks. The program is designed to help individuals quit and stay quit by using self-help measures and support. BWH counselors are committed to working with patients, on a weekly basis, throughout their quitting phase. In addition, there are six and twelve month follow-ups, for the first year, to prevent relapse and to support patients through the beginning of their maintenance phase.
