The Radiology Department at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) offers a variety of radiologic examinations, including digital plain films, fluoroscopy, mammography, ultrasound, and computed tomography (CT). All radiologic exams are computerized except mammography. Nuclear Medicine scans include bone, gallium, and lung scans, as well as PET imaging. Radiation therapy planning can be expedited through an online link between the CT scanner and the radiation therapy computer. Correlative studies to complement nuclear medicine examinations are done automatically so that a comprehensive report can be made.
The DFCI Radiology Department is actively involved with teaching of fellows, residents, and medical students. Research is performed within the Radiology Department, as well as in collaboration with oncologists. Consultations with patients and referring physicians for percutaneous radiologic tumor ablation are held in the Department. A new feature of the Department is a full-time Radiology Consultant, housed in the main clinical area of the hospital.
