Call System
| Night Float: | One resident covers the emergency department from 11 p.m. to 10 a.m. When the Consult resident leaves at 1 a.m., the Night Float resident also assumes the inpatient radiology pager, which is in use until the reading rooms open at 8 a.m. The Emergency Radiology Division is staffed by an attending 24 hours/day. Our Night Float rotation runs 7 days straight, and currently each resident will do a total of 6 weeks of Night Float during the course of his or her training. First year residents do not participate in Night Float coverage. | | Consult: | 1 resident covers inpatient CT and MR, as well as any plain films on which the housestaff have questions, from 5:45 p.m. until 12:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. Attendings/fellows are available to the Consult resident for back-up from each section. There are no morning/afternoon responsibilities while on Consult. Currently each resident will do a total of 6 weeks of Consult during the course of his or her training. First year residents do not participate in Consult coverage. | | Second, Third and Fourth Years Call: | 1 resident is scheduled to work Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with time split between the neuro and abdominal radiology reading rooms. The resident works one-on-one with the attending to handle all inpatient studies done during the day. Only third and fourth years are included in this call pool. Currently each resident will do a total of 6 days of Senior Call during the course of their training. | | Pediatrics: | Residents assigned to the Children's Hospital of Boston for pediatric radiology (3 consecutive months in the 2nd year of radiology training) participate in in-house overnight call according to a rotating schedule drawn up by the Children's pediatric radiology fellows. Call frequency varies depending on the number of residents rotating through Children's per season; group size varies from 7 to 14 residents. Residents cover plain films and assist the on-call fellow with scheduling and interpretation of cross-sectional imaging and other studies. | | Angiography/Interventional Radiology: | Residents assigned to the Angio/IR rotation participate equally in the home call pool with the Angio/IR fellows. Residents are assigned one week of call per month of service. Residents and fellows field calls from home related to emergency cases and care of all post-procedure Angio/IR patients. When assigned call on the weekend, the resident will also round on post-procedure patients as necessary. |
