Welcome to the Higgins Lab
We work on the mechanisms that control chromosome segregation during cell division. Accurate segregation requires dramatic changes in chromatin structure and microtubule organization that are crucial to prevent genome instability that can contribute to cancer and cause birth defects. Agents that target mitosis hold promise as anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory therapies. Our work includes efforts both to understand the basic biology of mitosis and to develop anti-mitotic small molecules that might find both research and clinical use.
