Overview
The mission of the Technology Innovation Program at the BWH Biomedical Research Institute (BRI) is to foster the development of effective and cost-effective use of technology-rich solutions to problems in patient care.
The Program acts as a dynamic interface that strongly links the hospital’s clinical and research missions in order to improve patient care. The Program seeks to accomplish its goal by aiding the identification and assessment of innovative technologies at BWH, by enhancing the environment and infrastructure at BWH to promote a ‘culture of innovation’ and by synergizing meaningful multi-disciplinary collaborations, both within and beyond BWH.
Toward this end, the director of the BWH-BRI Technology and Innovation Program (Frederick Schoen MD, PhD, TIP Director and CIMIT Site Miner for BWH) seeks to:
- Identify, screen and assess innovative technologies, arising from inside or outside BWH, that can impact clinical care, differentiate BWH in the marketplace and capture intellectual property
- Enhance the environment and infrastructure of BWH to enhance a culture of innovation at BWH and facilitate the application of innovative discoveries and technologies to transform clinical care across all service lines
- Facilitate and catalyze meaningful and appropriately multidisciplinary collaborations among clinicians, investigators and technologists, and leverage connections to useful institutional and external resources
- Optimize the means by which BWH and its investigators utilize the expertise and resources of various institutional and cross-institutional entities such as the BWH Clinical Centers of Excellence, the BRI Centers (particularly the Stem Cell, Regenerative Medicine and Tissue Engineering Research Center), the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology (HST), the BWH-HST Center for Biomedical Engineering, the BWH Research and Licensing Office, and the Center for Integration of Medicine and Innovative Technology (CIMIT)
