Neonatal Brain Research
The clinical need: The brain of premature babies may not always develop as well as those who are carried to full term, and many of them are left with a wide range of neuro-developmental problems. Early detection of such problems is crucial.
What we do: We use advanced brain imaging techniques, such as MRI and DTI, to follow the developing brain in NICU babies.
Our core efforts includes:
- Early detection of possible micro-structural abnormalities as early as the first week of life.
- Employing innovative computational tools to improve image resolution and segmentation of imaging data of premature brains.
- Examining the effects of different sound environments on neonatal brain wiring and long-term outcome.
