Nupur Mehta, MD seeks to bridge the gap between medical knowledge and the delivery of healthcare in resource-poor settings around the world. While in medical school, Dr. Mehta spent time in rural South Africa designing a program to scale-up HIV/AIDS care. There, he discovered that despite knowing how to treat particular diseases, healthcare practitioners and policymakers often lack the knowledge to effectively implement these therapies in places that lack money, personnel and infrastructure. By enrolling in the Global Health Equity Residency, Dr. Mehta hopes to gain the skills needed to design systems of care that will efficiently and effectively deliver treatment and services to those who need it most, thus preventing unnecessary suffering and discontinuing the vicious cycle of poverty and disease.
Dr. Mehta graduated with a BS in Biochemistry and Economics from Duke University in 2000 and earned his MD from Harvard Medical School in 2006. His research experience includes working with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) on improving the quality of comprehensive HIV services in South Africa and a clinical research fellowship in neurology and neuroradiology at Massachusetts General Hospital. |
