Research Summary

1. Clinical trial:  CALGB 140802 (in development).  Role – Principal Investigator.  Phase III randomized trial of imatinib mesylate therapy with or without early surgical resection for resectable metastatic gastrointestinal stromal tumor. 

2. Clinical trial:  CSTI571BUS282.  Role – Co-Investigator (part of 5 person team who designed multicenter trial); DF/HCC Site Principal Investigator.  Phase II non-randomized, open label multicenter study of 5-year adjuvant imatinib mesylate in patients following complete resection of high risk primary gastrointestinal stromal tumor.  Trial currently under IRB review at DF/HCC, opening at approximately 30 centers this year.

3. Laboratory:  Use of biodegradable copolymer films loaded with chemotherapeutic agent to decrease rates of locoregional recurrence in murine models of human sarcoma.  Ongoing work in Dr. Yolonda Colson’s laboratory.
