THE DIVISION OF SURGICAL ONCOLOGY provides comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and management for adult patients with both general surgical and oncologic surgical problems in the ambulatory as well as inpatient setting. Additionally, surgical specialities within the division include the treatment of benign and malignant disorders of the breast and management of malignancies of the GI tract (colorectal, biliary, hepatic and pancreatic), and division specialists actively participate in the Dana Farber/Brigham GI Center. The division is also well known for its innovative therapy for soft tissue sarcomas and melanomas and other skin lesions. The division supports and actively participates in the Dana Farber and Brigham and Women's Hospital Comprehensive Breast Health Center.
Division specialists have expertise in biological cancer immunotherapy and gene therapy for a variety of malignancies. Current areas of emphasis include the development of a vaccine therapy approach for the treatment of breast, ovarian, lung and pancreatic cancers. Twenty-four-hour consultation is available for urgent or emergency problems.
