Looking Your Best on Paper for Postdocs: Building a Resume and Cover Letter for Industry
This workshop will focus on how to highlight experiences and skills on a resume and cover letter and the importance of tailoring these documents for specific jobs. During this seminar, Lauren Celano will provide examples of skills and experiences that should be emphasized for different types of roles including bench research roles, non-bench research roles, business development, marketing, consulting, product/project management roles, and clinical roles. Advice will be provided regarding resume formatting and examples will be shown to highlight proper formatting. Lastly, attendees will learn how to write a tailored cover letter for a specific job description and what information a hiring manager looks for in this document.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
1. Distinguish the difference between a resume and CV
2. Tailor resumes for different types of careers ranging from bench research to non-bench research roles such as consulting, project management, and regulatory
3. Demonstrate how to tailor a cover letter to a specific position
This workshop is the second in a series of workshops designed to assist postdocs in obtaining the skills necessary to transition to positions in industry.
Attendance at these workshops will allow participants to have access to the BWH Postdoc Association's Connectors Program, a resource for connecting with postdoc alumni who are working in the private sector.
