A Sponsored Staff is classified as someone who works in the hospital but is receiving remuneration from an outside source, i.e. another country, another hospital. They are receiving payment but are not on the BWH payroll.
The process for Sponsored Staff here at BWH is as follows:
Orientation
Department/supervisor makes contact with the Office for Sponsored Staff and Volunteer Services to arrange for the Sponsored Staff person(s) to attend an orientation: bwhoss@partners.org.
Sponsored Staff applicants will bring completed registration packet, a government issued picture ID, and visa information if applicable with them to the orientation. Examples of acceptable identification can be found at the end of an I-9 form that you can view on the following website: www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-9.pdf.
You should be aware that the Office for Sponsored Staff and Volunteer Services does not work with or facilitate any part of the visa acquisition process. It is the responsibility of the department to ensure that the person they are interested in bringing into the hospital as a Sponsored Staff has the appropriate visa to work in the United States and within the hospital. Sponsored Staff Orientations (SSO) are held every Tuesday morning 8:30-10:00 in the Duncan Reid Conference Room. The 2007 - 2008 schedule is listed here.
Health Clearance and ID Badge
The Office for Sponsored Staff and Volunteer Services will arrange an appointment with Occupational Health on behalf of the applicant. He/she will need to bring a copy of their immunization records and will also receive a TB test at this appointment. Obtaining the immunization records and TB test ahead of time from your physician will expedite the health clearance process. This form may be helpful in obtaining the information from their provider. After receiving clearance in writing from Occupational Health, the Sponsored Staff person will be sent to the ID office to obtain a sponsored staff ID badge. The pink clearance form issued by Occupational Health should be brought to the Volunteer Office.
