Application Process

Qualifications

Candidates for the Deland Fellowship come from a variety of careers and educational backgrounds, including medicine, business, law, public policy, and public health. An advanced degree from a U.S. accredited institution is required for consideration.

The Deland Fellowship is a distinctive and unique learning opportunity which requires Fellows to display self-motivation, critical thinking, and leadership and to take initiative to address complex challenges at all levels of the organization. 2 years of relevant professional work experience is required, and 3 years of relevant professional work experience in a healthcare or business environment is strongly preferred.

Please note that applicants must have a graduate degree as well as a valid work authorization for employment in the United States (the Deland Fellowship does not sponsor visas).

How to Apply

Brigham and Women's Hospital utilizes the National Council on Administrative Fellowship (NAFCAS) centralized application system as a part of the Fellowship Application . Candidates can apply at nafcas.liaisoncas.com. If there is a reason that the potential candidate cannot apply through NAFCAS, please contact the program director.

For the current 2023-2024 application cycle, applications are due by no later than September 29, 2023 in accordance with NAFCAS timelines. All interviews will be conducted virtually during the period between September – October 2023. Candidates selected for the Deland Fellowship during this cycle will begin the Fellowship in June 2024.

The Deland Fellowship application includes two components.

1.) NAFCAS Application: Applicants must submit an application through the National Administrative Fellowship Centralized Application Service (NAFCAS) in accordance with NAFCAS timelines. Candidates can apply at liaisoncas.com.

The NAFCAS application includes the following components:

  • CV
  • Cover Letter
  • Essay Questions
  • Official Graduate School Transcript
  • Three (3) Letters of Recommendation: (1) Academic, (1) Professional and (1) Other (academic, professional, or letter from your program director)

If there is a reason that the potential candidate cannot apply through NAFCAS, please contact the program director.

2.) BWH Application: Complete an application through the BWH Careers page. This application will be available on the BWH website July through September.

Compensation

Fellows are paid a stipend equal to that of medical residents. As a full-time employee of BWH, the fellowship is benefits eligible.
