Ashley Elected President of the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract

Stan Ashley, MD, BWHC chief medical officer (CMO) and senior vice president for Medical Affairs, was recently elected president of the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract (SSAT). Ashley will serve one year as president-elect, one as president and then one year as chair of its Board of Trustees.

Ashley was also recently recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review as one of the “100 Hospitals and Health Systems CMOs to Know” based on his commitment to improve and innovate patient safety and care. He has served as the CMO of BWH since 2011. His research, which has been funded by the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Veterans Affairs, focuses on the pathophysiology of the small bowel and pancreas.

SSAT is the only society bridging multiple subspecialties of GI surgery through their commitment to advance the science and practice of surgery in the treatment of digestive disease.
