Scott Weiner, MD, MPH
Scott Weiner, MD, MPH, director of the Brigham Comprehensive Opioid Response and Education (B-CORE) and chief of the Emergency Medicine Division of Health Policy and Public Health, received an R01 grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse entitled “Using a Novel Comprehensive Linked Dataset to Determine Early Predictors of Opioid Overdose.”
This $2.6 million grant will support Weiner’s work to determine which factors about individuals, households and communities contribute to development of opioid use disorder and overdose.
As a clinician and investigator, Weiner’s broader areas of focus include responsible prescribing of opioid pain medications, screening for opioid use disorder and expanding access of naloxone to reverse opioid overdoses.
The mission of the National Institute on Drug Abuse is to advance science on the causes and consequences of drug use and addiction and to apply that knowledge to improve individual and public health.
