Aikawa Elected President of North American Vascular Biology Organization

Masanori Aikawa, MD, PhD


Masanori Aikawa, MD, PhD, the Yoshihiro Miwa Associate Chair and founding director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Cardiovascular Sciences (CICS) in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, was elected as president of the North American Vascular Biology Organization (NAVBO). Aikawa will serve a three-year term, first as president-elect (2019–2020), then as president (2020–2021) and finally as past president (2021–2022).

In addition to his role in the CICS, Aikawa is one of the principal investigators at the Center for Excellence in Vascular Biology. His research focuses on mechanisms for macrophage activation in vascular disease and drug discovery.

Since 1994, NAVBO has provided a forum for vascular biologists in the traditional basic science disciplines or studying the pathogenesis and treatment of human disease in disciplines such as medicine, pathology and surgery. Its mission is to promote the study of vascular biology.
