Thomas Michel, MD, PhD, senior physician in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, received the Department of Medicine’s 2020 Faculty Mentor Award from the Brigham and Women’s Internal Medicine Residents. This annual award was presented at the Department’s Education Grand Rounds. Awardees are selected by interns and residents in the Brigham’s Internal Medicine Residency Program.
This marks the second time in the last three years that Michel has received the Faculty Mentor Award from the Brigham medical residents. Throughout his career, he has received numerous teaching and mentoring awards both at the Brigham and at Harvard Medical School in recognition of his exceptional commitment to biomedical education and to mentorship of students and trainees.
Michel is a physician-scientist and leads an active basic research program in cardiovascular signal transduction. His research studies have had a broad impact in cardiovascular pharmacology, spanning from cellular imaging approaches to the creation and analysis of informative animal models. He also practices clinical cardiology and is deeply involved in teaching medical residents, cardiology fellows, graduate students, and MD-PhD students.
