Brigham Earns 'LGBTQ Health Care Equality Leader' Designation in Human Rights Campaign Foundation's Healthcare Equality Index

For the 11th year, Brigham and Women’s Hospital has been named an LGBTQ Health Care Equality Leader by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC). The designation is awarded through HRC's Healthcare Equality Index (HEI) 2020 survey, a national benchmarking tool that evaluates health care facilities' policies and practices related to the equity and inclusion of their LGBTQ patients, visitors and employees.

The Brigham was one of 495 institutions to be recognized as a 2020 LGBTQ Health Care Equality Leader. The designation requires receiving the maximum score in each section of the survey, resulting in an overall score of 100. Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital also received the honor this year.

HEI participants are assessed on five criteria: Non-Discrimination & Staff Training, Patient Services & Support, Employee Benefits & Policies, Patient & Community Engagement and Responsible Citizenship. Click here to access the full report.

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation is education arm of America's largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people. HRC envisions a world where LGBTQ people are embraced as full members of society at home, at work and in every community.
